History of MKES

The Malad Kandivli Education Society (MKES), a visionary Society was established before independence with the sole objective of imparting education to the masses, especially to the youth of the linguistic minority community. MKES was a realization of the dream of a few leaders of the then thinly populated suburbs of Malad and Kandivli to create a facility for imparting quality education to the students which was absent at that time. Late Shri Kantilal Nahalchand generously donated 9000 sq. yards of plot and an amount of Rs.1.11 lacs as donation towards the construction of a school building. This motivated the community to contribute handsome amounts to realise the dream of their leaders and thus, in 1942, the Sheth N.L. High School was established with two mediums of instruction - Gujarati and Hindi.

During the month of June 1983, the MKES was informed by the Maharashtra Government about the sanction of Junior as well as Degree College courses for the faculties of Arts, Commerce and Science. Harbouring the dream of providing high standard education, the Nagindas Khandwala College of Commerce & Arts was established in the year 1983 under the proper guidance of educational veterans like Principal Dr. U. R. Koli, Prof. A. A. Kazi and Principal K. N. Tirodkar. Also, the Bombay Suburban Grain Dealers’ Junior College of Commerce & Arts was set up from the academic year 1983-84. These institutions of learning were established with a vision to create a learning culture that exemplifies excellence in teaching, promotes life-long learning and develops skills and capabilities, to face the challenges of emerging business scenarios across the globe. Further, to keep up with the changing trends, the Malad Kandivli Education Society established M.K.E.S. English School on 13th June, 1994. Today, the Degree College which started with three divisions of FYBCom and a student strength of 300 offers 37 undergraduate programmes, 16 postgraduate programmes and 4 Ph. D programmes through 3 research centres with a student enrolment of around 8500 students.

M.K.E.S. College of Law (3 years and 5 years degree course), the brain-child of the trustees was started by the Malad Kandivli Education Society in the year 2014. Last but not the least, the Society started the PGDM Courses approved by AICTE from Academic Year 2023-24 in M.K.E.S. Institute of Management Studies and Research (MKESIMSR). The PGDM programme is a two-year, 4 semesters, full-time programme equivalent to an MBA. This programme is approved by AICTE and DTE, Government of Maharashtra.
